Jukka Lammi

Head of Technology, Lumineq Displays

Who you are and what do you do?

I’m one of Beneq’s six Jukkas, and used to be the tallest one before our current CEO started – Damn.

What do I do? Well, with my Lumineq Technology team we have a very wide playground to cover. As skipper and team manager I try to ensure that we succeed as goalkeeper, defenders, midfielders and attackers. In terms of technology that means we are responsible for securing and improving existing technical production capabilities; finding root-causes, answers and solutions to often complex technical problems, and also taking care of R&D work for new Lumineq electroluminescence (EL) display features.
In addition, my personal tasks are spiced up with a nice load of administrative stuff when it comes to reporting and project steering. I work closely with my team members, and also with Product Management and Sales.

What kind of work have you done during the years?

I started at this factory 17 years ago as a team member of process engineers and was responsible for lithography processes. At that time, our main focus was to improve yields and general capability to produce high-quality products.

We had a very competent team then also, and together we improved our capability and competence to a level which yielded positive results for our factory in Espoo, Finland. Times were tough then, and the owner at that time (Planar Systems) decided to shut down their other EL factory in the US, letting our story continue.

Since 2004 I have had supervisory responsibility over our engineering team, and during the years after that my scope of technical responsibilities have constantly widened and deepened.

Despite the changing titles on the organization chart, my passion has always been to help and support production the best way I can. At the same time, I’m open to all technology and love R&D activities. This is simultaneously an asset and mandatory feature while we are constantly pushing our limits when considering new application areas for Lumineq transparent electroluminescent (TASEL) products.

How would you describe Beneq as a work place?

I once wrote the following sentence in my career profile: “These are the voyages of the starship Lumineq. Its continuing mission: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new technical opportunities and new TFEL applications, to boldly commercialize TFEL displays where no display has survived before.”
I think I will use that as an answer to this question – with an amendment: It is, and has been, a privilege to be a part of our wonderful team on this continuing voyage and implementing its clear mission.
