Emma Salmi

Senior Scientist, Thin Film Solutions

Who you are and what do you do?
My name is Emma Salmi, I’m a Senior Scientist in the TFS Development Services team.
I mainly work in customer projects, where I research the best ALD solutions for customers’ applications. In addition,  I’m responsible for coordinating our scientific contributions (talks and posters) at conferences. I also have a role as the newly appointed Occupational Safety Manager at Beneq.
Last, but not least, I participate in internal product development projects.

What do you enjoy most in your work?
I really enjoy the versatility, it’s great to be involved in many different tasks! As my background is more in basic research, I find it interesting to continue research but also to be able to focus more on how to best utilize ALD in different applications. Every day there’s a lot to do and new things to learn, there’s never a boring day at work!

What is the most challenging currently in your work?
Sometimes it is challenging to find time to concentrate more attention on developing our ALD solutions even further. There are several projects going on simultaneously, and naturally customers always come first.

What are the most important competences you need at your work?
To be successful at my work, I need to have an understanding of multiple ALD processes, and  fundamental knowledge about the ALD processes we use. Organizing skills, the ability to prioritize and have a clear focus on what I need to do next is important as well. Also fluent verbal and written English and Finnish skills are critical so I can share my work results with others.
