Saving the world’s resources by miniaturizing and digitalizing everything with new solutions and innovative technologies is at the core of our thinking at Beneq.

Atomic layer deposition is about making the world thinner. It saves material. We also make electronics, optics and for example solar cells more efficient and durable. That saves energy.

Our displays are the most durable in the business. The long life cycles reduce the need for replacement parts. It saves resources too.

When we started thinking about sending greetings for the holiday season, it was natural that we would go looking for an environment-friendly option. First we decided to minimize the use of material and go for a mainly digital solution. Then we wanted to find a good cause we could donate to that would somehow link with the things we believe in at Beneq. The cause we ended up supporting was close and plain to sea (sic).

The Baltic Sea is a vulnerable inland sea

The Baltic Sea is brackish with a low salinity – a unique mixture of salty and fresh waters. The average depth of the Baltic Sea is only 54 metres. Compared to almost any other sea in the world, the Baltic Sea is a small and shallow body of water.

The Baltic Sea is linked to the North Sea via the narrow Danish straits, and the turnover of the water is very slow. Due to the slow water turnover, environmental toxins and eutrophying nutrients remain in the Baltic Sea and cause long-term effects.

The population of the Baltic Sea is an unusual combination of freshwater and ocean flora and fauna that are very sensitive to changes in the environment. The low salinity of the northern Baltic Sea, the cold winters and the sea freezing over set challenges for the adaptation of organisms. Many species in the Baltic Sea live on the extreme limits of their adaptability.

The Baltic Sea should become clean and clear again. This holiday season we support the John Nurminen Foundation, which is striving to bring about a visible improvement in the condition of the Baltic Sea by reducing the nutrient load of the sea.
