Beneq joins the new Finnish Energy Efficiency Agreement

ALD improves the efficiency of energy production and reduces energy consumption in the world. ALD allows wiser use of precious raw materials, protects products and makes them last longer. ALD also makes electronics and optics more efficient and resilient. That saves energy too.

Beneq is committed to voluntary energy savings

When a couple a weeks ago, Minister of Economic Affairs Olli Rehn and Minister of Agriculture and the Environment Kimmo Tiilikainen together with representatives from industries signed an agreement on new energy efficiency objectives for Finland for years 2017-2025, it was natural for us to be one of the first companies to join the agreement and commit to additional energy savings.

The agreement is a means of improving energy efficiency in the industry with voluntary measures without enacting any new legislation. The companies who join commit to improving the efficiency of their energy use in order to achieve the agreed objectives. Finland is one of the rare EU Member States where this voluntary agreement procedure has been effective and produces good results. 

Optimizing thin film production at the Beneq factory

While the Beneq thin film coatings save energy and materials in our customers’ products, the coating processes and the ALD-based production of our durable Lumineq displays require a tightly regulated clean room area, where the temperature, humidity and the amount of particles need to be controlled at all times. That requires quite a lot of energy and offers us an obvious area for efficiency improvements.

Lots have already been done, but there is always more that can be achieved with new innovative production solutions. Optimizing the energy consumption of the thin film coating processes in our factory will help us improve our customers’ production too. Naturally, saving energy at the home of ALD will in addition help us to achieve our profitability targets. If at the same time, it will also save the world’s scarce resources, it suits our company vision well. Better coatings, less waste.
